Members of a LAB play a key role in supporting the Board of Trustees to fulfil their statutory, contractual and regulatory duties. As a member of a LAB, you will share equally with the other members of the LAB the responsibility of exercising the powers and responsibilities delegated to the LAB by the Board. Details of these powers and responsibilities are set out in the Kernow Learning (formerly The Learning Academy Trust) Scheme of Delegation.

As a charity and company limited by guarantee, the Multi Academy Trust (the “Trust”)) is governed by a Board of Directors (the “Directors”) who have overall responsibility and ultimate decision making authority for all the work of the Trust, including the establishing and running of the academies run by the Trust.

he following academies are currently run by the Trust (Kernow Learning):  Trenance Learning Academy, St. Newlyn East Learning Academy, Falmouth Primary Academy, Foxhole Learning Academy, The Bishops CEVA Learning Academy, St. Merryn Primary School, Trevisker Primary School, Constantine Primary School, Mabe Community School, Leedstown Primary School, St. Agnes Academy, St. Columb Major Academy, St. Columb Minor Academy, St. Kew Academy, Beacon Academy, Charlestown Primary School, Upton Cross Academy and Sky Academy - each one the “Academy” or collectively the “Academies”.

In order to assist with the discharge of their responsibilities, the Directors have established a Local Advisory Board (“LAB”) in each of the Academies.  The LAB shall be a committee established pursuant to Articles 100 to 104 (inclusive) of the Articles of Association of the Trust (the “Articles”).

As part of the Trust's vision and long term strategy the Trust are creating 'Hub' Academies/LABs to interlink and share expertise, skills and knowledge of LAB members, whilst ensuring efficient and productive meetings.

The Directors may review LAB terms of reference at any time but at least annually.

Since retiring Val has been an active member of the Board of Trustees of the Heritage Cottages at Trenance Gardens, a role which she thoroughly enjoys and is keen to develop educational visits. Our Y2 pupils have already visited the heritage cottages.

Dr Abby Farrell

Parent Member of Local Advisory Board, Parent-elected in November 2018

I am a local GP who works in several areas throughout Cornwall. I attended medical school in Warwick, graduating in 2010. Prior to Med School I was an eternal student and did a BSc in Physiology and a Masters in Forensic Anthropology. I completed my junior doctor and specialist training in the Midlands and moved to Cornwall with my family in 2017.
Outside of work and looking after my two children I enjoy running and yoga. I'm also currently learning Makaton, a language I had a great head-start with after many years of watching back-to-back episodes of Mr. Tumble!

Mr Louis Keveren

Staff Member of Local Advisory Board, Staff elected November 2018

Louis is a Y2 Teacher at Trenance and has previously taught across the Trust at Foxhole Learning Academy and St. Newlyn East Learning Academy. Louis is a Specialist Leader in Education for P.E and supports schools across the Trust.

Mrs Kay Walker

Parent member of Local Advisory Board, Parent elected November 2018

I am Deputy Head of a large school in the local area. I have two girls, one who is currently in Y2 at Trenance and another who is 2-years old. They keep me busy and we enjoy all that the local area has to offer. We make the most of the beaches and the things that we are lucky enough to do living in this beautiful part of the world. I became a LAB member not only to support my own children but to support Trenance. The experiences that the staff of Trenance provide for our children is fantastic. I can certainly see the progress in my own daughter and the experiences that she has had.
